Mission
AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research.
What is AAUW?
Membership is open to all graduates who hold an associate's or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. In principle and in practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There are no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class. For more than 130 years, we have worked together as a national grassroots organization to improve the lives of millions of women and their families. What started with 17 like-minded women has grown into a powerful network that has influenced - and at times shaped - the debate over equity in education. Our nonpartisan, nonprofit organization has more than 170,000 members and supporters with 1,000 branches and 800 college & university partners..
West Valley Branch
The West Valley branch is almost 20 years old and has been a force in the community since its founding. Although the branch is small when compared to most branches in the state, the membership is dedicated to giving book scholarships to local women, helping with community activities, assisting in local schools, and contributing to literacy programs.
